Jacob’s First Communion

I know, I know!  Can you believe todays blog isn’t about a newborn, cake smash, family session or corporate headshot?  We do so many different types of sessions here at Left of Centre Photography and we thought we would mix things up this week with a First Communion Session!  Enjoy!

Rosie Turns One!

It truly feels like it was just yesterday when I was photographing Rosie as a newborn baby. She has now turned one, proving that time flies and people are right when they tell you to enjoy every moment when they are little. It has been a gift to watch her grow, from the maternity session of Rosie in her Mum’s belly, to her newborn and 6 month old session, and now she’s gone and turned one on me! I can’t wait to continue to capture and watch her personality blossom!

There’s A Lot of Cake Thievery Going On!

Rachel and I are like this (I’m crossing my fingers together).  In 2015, when she was pregnant with her first daughter we did maternity photos, then newborn, then 6 month and then a cake smash… and then we did it all over again with baby number two!  I didn’t get the chance to blog every session we did, but check out Rachel’s first maternity session here and her second here, and Raelynn’s newborn photos here and Lily’s here. You can also see some of their family photos featured here!

I was really excited and sad when I got the call from Rachel that it was time to photograph Lily’s cake smash. I was really happy because I love cake smashes (cake everywhere is always fun), but sad because this would be our last session together. I’m cheering myself up though, because I know we will do family photos again in the fall and I am also secretly hoping Rachel has another baby. Just putting it out there! Regardless, Rachel and her gorgeous family have become part of our family - the photographs of Jeff feeding Lily and himself are proof of that!

We had such a blast photographing Lily’s cake smash. We dressed up and rocked out to Queen Elsa singing Let it Go (video courtesy of Rachel can be found on our Instagram), ate some cake and danced around! I do have a tip for anyone looking to do a cake smash, don’t go to the session hungry. Either that, or don’t invite Rachel, she couldn’t keep her hands off that cake!

Here are some epic shots from our session with Lily (and her cake stealing Mom and our very own Jeff)!

Cake as Paint? A Cake Smash paint fest!

I like cake. A lot. I absolutely love pie, but I like cake. Most kids that come to our studio like cake. Ella on the other hand, she LOVES cake. I mean, she really couldn’t get enough of it. Using her hands to shovel it into her mouth wasn’t good enough, she had to use her feet too. Pure genius. She even started painting the floor with it. Which is far better for the environment than some paints, plus it's tastier to clean up.  Did you know that cake is a decent substitute for paint? You do now. You’re welcome.

I don’t know about you, but I think a pie smash might be a good idea. No, that’s just crazy. Pie should never be wasted by smashing. The cake must be going to my head!

Turning One is so much Fun!

Sometimes when we have photography sessions with children shyness becomes a factor.  Fortunately both Jeff and I are photographers and there is usually one of us that becomes the "chosen one" with kids, and it's usually me...*cough*.  Actually it's about 50/50, but I like to tell myself I am more likeable than Jeff! When Parker came into our studio for his one year session he definitely played shy, but in the end we both won him over- he liked me the most, and we captured some really amazing shots of him. This is the first one year old session in a while where we didn't do a cake smash and had some fun with balloons instead.  We had such a great time and all of us ended up in giggles- which is always my favourite!

Check out some of our favourites here -

Hailey's Perfect Princess Party!

Want to know the best way to make your princess feel like an actual princess on her 5th birthday? Do what Hailey’s Mom did and invite 3 of your princess’ best pals, get them all dolled up as their favourite princess, take them to get their nails done, and then off to a photographer to have their own time to shine in the spotlight!  We had so much fun with Belle, Snow White, The Ice Queen, and Queen Elsa! I had an absolute blast photographing these giggly girls and you can see just how much fun they had in the photos. I really loved using our new bedhead background for this and it gives these princess’ the regal look they deserve! Not only were we able to take photos during Hailey’s party, but with some teamwork each girl got to go home with her very own photo, you can’t get much more special than that! This is one of the best parties we have been a part of and I am taking notes…. my daughter’s 6th birthday is coming up…. I guess I better get on that! First, I need to vacuum more sparkles that have managed to travel all over the studio, wish me luck!

Johnny's 6 month photo session.

Last Sunday I did Johnny's one year Cake Smash session, and I had such a blast with him! I was catching up with his Mom about what they had been up to since I had last chatted with them at Johnny's 6 month session and it turned out she had run into a client of mine while out grocery shopping, that she had read about on our blog (another cake smash session).  I was thrilled to hear that two of my amazing clients were chatting about us and I am always so happy to know when people are reading the blog and watching what we are up to. Then it hit me... I had completely forgotten to post about Johnny's 6 month photo session! Insert forehead slap here! So it's a little late, but he's just so cute that I couldn't skip it.  Look at those cheeks and that smile!

Stay tuned for Johnny's Cake Smash session coming soon!

We have a new Background- Part 2

The rumours are true, we have a second new scenic backdrop.  I recently told you all about our new Starry Night Backdrop, which I love and Jeff may hate because I have put him to work making and remaking props to go with it. I decided to buy a few props to go with the second backdrop (you're welcome, Jeff).  I can't wait to use it, so if you're about to have a baby and like the look of this, give me a call and we can get some amazing images of your newborn, or toddler, but not your husband. That would be weird. Check out our new, totally awesome background.  Savannah was nice enough to pose for me but stay tuned for the lucky person who gets to use it first!

Liam's Cake Smash and Extras with our NEW Backdrop!

I had so much fun hanging out with Liam and his parents celebrating him turning the big O.N.E! This is such a fun milestone. It usually marks the time when parents end up running even faster after their babes because they can walk, grab things and, let's face it, outsmart us. Liam is such a cutie and you will see why! Also... here it is, the moment we have all be waiting for... photos on my newest background purchase, I know you are all completely excited to see this.

Stay tuned, I have proposed my DIY prop to Jeff and he so happily accepted the challenge.  He may tell you I bullied him into it, but don't listen to him it's all lies.

See you all next week!

We have a new Backdrop! Part 1

I am always looking for ways to change things up when photographing newborns and children.  Usually this can be accomplished with some new propping, angling and, of course, lighting.  Every once in a while I go completely off the rails and buy a new backdrop. This is one of those times.  Although I usually stay away from really scenic looks I found two that I just couldn't pass up. In this post I am going to tease you with just one; because I am evil like that! Here it is, my new starry night backdrop. EEEEEE! I am excited to start using this... I have already thought of some DIY projects for Jeff to do to add to it! He loves when I come up with projects for him.

I will be posting some sessions with this background ASAP and stay tuned for my New Backdrop Part 2 post where I expose our second purchase!
