I spent a lot of my time in College studying Ansel Adams. We had what I would call a love-hate relationship... clearly this relationship was purely one sided as Ansel Adams died the year after I was born! His specialty of black and white images- love...the zone system- hate. It took me a good six years after college to truly appreciate this man and even read the books bought for me during my college experience (thanks Dad... I did read them in the end; money well spent!). I am now proud to say I understand the zone system and though I know my personal camera like the back of my hand and think of it as my third child I have deep respect for how Ansel Adams pushed his tool in a way no longer possible in the digital age to create his art. Please enjoy this quote...one of many from a true master.
“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.” ― Ansel Adams
