Go Behind The Scenes at a Newborn Session at LOCPS

We love seeing tiny little newborns at our home studio!

We’ve been hopping since November, welcoming eight of our tiniest clients - including a set of twins - to the studio…not to mention that we are getting ready to welcome another little guy on Monday this week on his seventh day on the planet. These are some of Amy’s favourite sessions, getting in all her baby snuggles before they go home…

At some point, in what probably started as a way to look busy during these sessions, I started playing around with shooting video of the process of a newborn session. A newborn baby can take a bit of time to get settled and sleeping deeply, and, well, there’s only so much that I can do as a man in those circumstances!

Above is my first attempt at capturing all the love and care that abounds during the shoot, both from the new parents and us as photographers. I hope you enjoy.

What does a photographer do for their own Business Headshot?

For the past number of years, a large portion of our commercial business at Left of Centre Photography Services has been Corporate Business Headshots. Increasingly, when speaking to these customers, the trend we've noticed is that their prime intended usage of these portraits has been for their LinkedIn profiles - for a variety of reasons and purposes, but all verbalize recognition of the fact that their online presence could use a more polished, professional look.

As specialists in creating these images, we always start with a simple question for a Business Headshot - what business are you in?

While we are all about breaking the rules, sometimes it’s better to slightly bend them. A great headshot will help you stand out in your field of expertise without looking like you are in a different industry! Someone in the financial field should probably not look like an artist...

So, for our business photos, we think we can get away with being a bit different...a little Left of Centre, if you will!

These photos were taken in our comfortable home-based studio as a quick brand-refresh, to be used on our various social channels. Our brand has always been about the two of us - the team we provide in all aspects of image creation, and the fun we have doing it!

Fall Family Photo Sessions with Thanksgiving Around the Corner

I was in for a shock when I realized that not this weekend but NEXT weekend is Thanksgiving here in Canada! Is it just me or did that sneak up really fast? It seems early this year and I am not ready. I mean, I am ready for pumpkin pie (I am always ready for pie), and I am ready for fall weather, I am also ready for all the family photo sessions that we are doing and will be doing as the leaves change colour. What I am not ready for is that after Thanksgiving comes Halloween and after Halloween comes Christmas... and now I am going into a coma! I guess that was a very roundabout way to say that I am not ready for Christmas! So let’s not talk about that.

Thanksgiving weekend is always a busy one for us. Not only because we are taking the time to give Thanks with the ones we love, but we also get to capture all the other families who get together to spend time with each other. Big family groups are very popular this time of year, with gorgeous weather and often family is in from out-of-town! You can't beat that...especially if there’s pie!
