A New Viking!

I had so much fun with the adorable Ethan. When I met with Katie and Jason I was thrilled to hear about their history and learning a little about Jason’s viking heritage. I enjoyed incorporating this theme into our session!  Here are some great shots from my newborn session with Ethan the Viking!

Newborn Session with Baby Morgan

We had a wonderful session with this sweet little newborn, and once we got her to sleep the magic started to happen. I think I did my job really well, because Morgan wasn’t the only one who fell asleep! During the session her Mommy managed to catch a few zzzz’s by the fire in our super comfortable red chair... in her defence, not many people can resist that chair!

In home newborn session with LOCPS

More times than not I do my newborn sessions in my home studio, as I am unable to bring all of my goodies and props and it is positively impossible to transport my huge beanbag baby poser. Sometimes people want to use a specific room in their home, or they aren’t as mobile or comfortable after a c-section. I’m always willing to do what makes my clients happy, newborn sessions are as personal and individual as the new baby is. I am often asked if doing newborn sessions is better in home or in my studio, and there really is no right answer to this, it simply depends on what look is desired. In studio there is more room for different poses and props to be used. I usually have several setups prepared before my clients arrive, and I take a long time getting each look just right, usually dedicating more than an hour to set up. In a clients home things work somewhat differently, I like to show up a little early and start setting up while baby is being fed. I start off by scouting out the home, looking to see which room(s) I will use, checking available light and deciding where to set up studio lights if there isn’t a sufficient amount of natural light available. Well in advance, before the session takes place, I discuss with my clients if they have a certain look or feel in mind.  Sometimes I am sent pictures of what people like, and sometimes I am told to create whatever artistic look I decide on.  Some people love props, others prefer minimal to none.  Some people love natural colours, such as browns and beige, others select more vibrant and gender specific colours. The beauty of it all is that you have the freedom to decide or leave it up to me. Once this is determined everything goes smoothly and everyone is happy! I was really excited when I was asked to do this newborn session at Lauren and Andrew's beautiful home. With this session Kate’s parents wanted to capture her; just as she is.  I think we definitely achieved that.  I didn’t use too many headbands or props… ok, maybe I got a little carried away at the end with my flower in nest look, but Kate was just so picture perfect I couldn’t help myself.  I loved photographing this family in their home, they were so laid back, and I even had the chance to rock little Kate to sleep in my arms.  What a wonderful session, I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures just as much as I did creating them!

Emily's 6 month milestone photography session at our home studio!

There is something beautiful about the 6 month milestone. Babies are at their most innocent yet on the verge of mischief.  Think Puss in Boots from Shrek with his adorable big eyes just before he pulls out his sword!  6 month olds are just the same, big innocent eyes, only instead of a sword they will pull your hair! We loved photographing Emily and her Mom and Dad!  Just look at those big eyes…and watch your hair!

Baby Rosie Arrives!

We didn't need to wait long, sweet Rosie has arrived and she is perfect. I was incredibly happy to hear that Tara and Darryl had a baby girl, because a several weeks ago I received a gorgeous felt flower hat from Poland and I have been waiting oh so patiently to use it. Rosie comes along and I jump at the chance to get that flower hat on her and, well, it was epic! Don't you think?

Newborn Session with Luke!

I usually ask my clients to prep their babes before our sessions.  Things like, giving them a nice warm bath before the session, holding off on feeding until coming to our studio etc. and I told Luke's Mom the same thing. She knew better though, and after she arrived with Luke passed out in his car seat she was confident he would stay that way.  You know what? She was right.  He slept for our entire session waking only after two hours of shooting to pose with his big sister.  My jaw may still be hanging open. It's very rare that a baby will sleep from the moment they arrive until nearly departure time.  Believe me, I am not complaining! Here are some photos from my session with Alanna and her wonderful family while little Luke was still in her belly-

Now here's the gorgeous, sleepy Luke, looking positively picture perfect for us!

Double the Fun- Photo-shoot of baby twins with Left of Centre Photography!

What's more challenging than one baby? Two of them! I bow down to parents of twins and multiples.  It takes far more organization and effort to even get out the door than it does with one child.  I'm in awe with how easily this family does it! Their girls are simply stunning and I was so impressed at how easy going the parents are.

I had such a great time photographing these gorgeous twin girls! Getting the chance to cuddle with both of them and seeing their different personalities was such a wonderful experience!

There really is something very special about twins, and these girls are no exception, check out a few of the gorgeous photographs I captured !

Adorable Newborn Photos of baby Aaryan by Left of Centre Photography!

One of the amazing things about being a photographer is having the ability and opportunity to meet new people and be welcome into their homes.  This was one of those instances.  I was contacted by a woman who had a newborn baby, looking to have photos done, and hoping I would be able to come to her house.  I was welcome in and made to feel at home.  Not only did I have the chance to take amazing photographs of an adorable baby and his very loving parents, but I also connected with another mother and we both hit it off with one another. I love my job! Take a look at this beautiful, lovely family.  You will find yourself smiling, I promise!

Newborn photography session- with a very special little man and exciting tale to go with it!

I was thrilled when a very good and old friend of mine announced she was pregnant with her first child, finally she would join me in motherhood and we could discuss all the ups and downs of children.  We planned a pregnancy session for when she would hit 35 weeks and I starting thinking of all the amazing poses etc. I was going to do with her.  See, Emma and I have known each other since grade 9, and when I went off to college for Applied Photography she became my model for many sessions, even stripping down for me on a few of my fine art projects (thanks Emma! I got an "A" by the way!!). So you can imagine my excitement when I knew I could get some really amazing pregnancy photographs out of her! Her pregnancy progressed nicely and there were plans and conversations about baby showers and parties. I had received an email from her with some ideas on dates and asking my thoughts. Things were incredibly busy at work and I didn't reply in my usual speedy fashion so I wasn't surprised when I received a phone call the following day.  I answered with immediate apologies about not getting back to her about the shower dates to have her tell me she wasn't so worried about it as she felt it needed to be postponed for a while.  I laughed and asked her jokingly "Why, have you already had the baby?" her answer of "Yes." left me speechless (and that's saying something!).  Her son, Miles, was born 5 and a half weeks early.  Thankfully both he and Emma thrived and were released from the hospital in excellent health.  So, instead of doing maternity photographs, we skipped straight into newborn.  Before I share those photographs with you, I asked Emma to share her story of premature labour as I know many people out there can relate. Please take the time to read it and see some of the photographs of this special little man below. Love LOCPS xoxox

Emma and Miles' Story-

I'm a full-time veterinarian and on the day Miles was born I was in a barn looking after some horses when my water broke unexpectedly. I was only 35 weeks into my pregnancy and my first thought was "this can't be happening, not now, not yet". I was wholly unprepared. I hadn't packed a bag for the hospital, I hadn't installed the car seat and I only had a handful of newborn clothes that I had thankfully purchased during the Black Friday sales in November. But preparation aside, what did this mean for our baby boy? Would he be able to be born naturally as we had planned? Would he be healthy? Would he require special care or treatments?

I drove myself to the hospital and met my husband walking in the emergency room door. When the doctor confirmed I was indeed in labor we had mixed feelings of excitement and anxiety all at once. In less than 12 hours our baby would be here. But our visions of a warm, wriggling newborn being deposited on my bare chest following delivery would not come to fruition. I got a brief glimpse of baby Miles before he was whisked away to the intensive care nursery where IV tubes, breathing aids and monitoring wires quickly sprouted from his little body like blades of grass. It was almost 24 hours before we could even hold him.

Thankfully all these measures were merely precautions and after five days under the watchful eyes of the doctors and nurses, Miles was discharged home at 5lbs 14oz with a clean bill of health. Miles's original due date finally came on June 1, 2015, and as I look down at my five week old son, now pushing 10lbs, I feel so grateful. Grateful that our son arrived early but healthy and grateful that I didn't have to deliver a 10 pound baby!  I can't imagine still being pregnant waiting for this little guy to arrive, he is such an important part of our lives already. No, we were not prepared, but I suppose what parent really is when it comes to the birth of your first child. Like many parents before us we had to roll with the punches and welcome this new adventure with open minds and open arms. Our lives will never be the same and I wouldn't have it any other way!
